Frutura is a producer of fruit and vegetables and a trading company for fruit and vegetables in Austria. Frutura has been involved in an extensive digitalisation programme since 2019. Part of this digitalisation is supplier management, which in the food industry – with its strict legal regulations and vast number of different certificates, including bio-labels and sustainability certificates – offers huge potential for efficiency. From the very outset Frutura considered not just its suppliers but its key customer as well, whose specifications need to be passed on to suppliers.
As Frutura already had an SAP S/4HANA ERP system, it opted for the Supplier Lifecycle and Performance (SLP) and Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC) SAP Ariba modules early on in the process. Following a reference call with an apsolut customer in the food processing industry, the project partner decided to opt for apsolut. Frutura uses the two modules in their most extensive configurations as the tool is used not only to process orders, but to process all important documents and information as well, including delivery notes, packing instructions, shipping labels, shipping notifications and invoice statuses. An important objective is also the complete maintenance of master data and certificates by suppliers. If a supplier’s certificate is in danger of expiring, the system is set up to send an alert well ahead of time. This will relieve Frutura of having to request the certificate and will mean that it is the supplier’s responsibility to renew.
One of the project’s major challenges has been the need for suppliers to register with the new platform. To this end, Frutura has made a number of training videos and FAQs available, although a lot of communication is still needed.
The newly implemented processes fully cover the stringent requirements that Frutura imposes on its suppliers. The 100 most important suppliers will already have been integrated into the network by the end of 2022. An ever increasing number of efficiency benefits of the solution will become visible in the longer term and the overall ordering process will become faster. Goods receipt and quality control are now also more tightly meshed. In addition, Frutura is helping to ensure greater transparency along the supply chain, something that suppliers will ultimately benefit from as well.
Gerald Goldgruber, Strategic Manager for Process Management and SAP at Frutura, is confident that the anticipated levels of efficiency will be attained:
„apsolut not only guided us through the project with utmost professionalism and a proactive approach – decisive was the fact that apsolut enabled us to operate the new tool independently and to control the next steps ourselves. In addition, thanks to apsolut, we have been able to establish the right network, including with the right contacts at SAP Austria. The project has been an overwhelming success and we have managed to foster an almost friend-to-friend relationship with the apsolut team."
Correspondence is no longer needed when it comes to updating biocertificates and other food-related certificates
Implementation of Ariba SCC in almost the most extensive configuration possible
