SAP BTP is the abbreviation for SAP’s Business Technology Platform. The platform is a toolbox for all future cloud extensions, which means that changes will not need to be implemented in the core system and will remain release-independent. The BTP can also be used as a development platform, allowing own products to be designed and marketed.
The next logical step after introduction of a SAP system is customisation according to the needs of the customer. Many customers do this in the system directly, which can mean that the system is no longer capable of being maintained. It prevents future releases being installed as the core of the system has been changed too radically. This is where the SAP Business Technology Platform comes in! The BTP allows changes to be made without the core system being affected in any way. As such, the HANA system can receive updates at any time, so for you, everything is always up to date. A BTP can also be connected to legacy systems. It is particularly useful in the cloud area, as there, few changes can be implemented as a rule. Plus, the BTP can also satisfy the desire for more company-specific adjustments for cloud systems.
There are no requirements for introduction and use of the SAP BTP. Communication with the internal SAP landscape takes place via the SAP Cloud Connector and is secured against external attacks. In addition, the BTP can enable communication via all established internet standards.
The systems are the same, but SAP made some name changes in the past. At the beginning, the platform was known as HCP (Hana Cloud Platform). It was renamed as SCP (SAP Cloud Platform) and then once again as BTP (Business Technology Platform), by which name it has been known for a while now. If you are familiar with the SAP Cloud Platform from other research or conversations, let us reassure you – the systems are the same.
